When we are born we often take on the life that developed around us. Whether it is to follow that path or find a new one. For many this leaves reason to create what you make of it and make your life your own regardless of your uprising. However for many minorities and black people regardless of who you are and what you make from it, you cannot make anything from if you are shot and dead, or stripped voiceless from the very home that was supposed protect you. These are a collection of poems that touch upon the struggles of black life in America. Some of which are mine and others from famous authors and people I know just all like. Let's talk about "forbidden topics" and change our understanding of each and the world around us.

A compelling story that documents the experiences of five college sophomores: Jewel, Shaun, Dirk, Lavender, and Coba. This story explores the modern social and racial complexities of being black in higher education. With the illustrious predominantly white institute (PWI), Carnie University and the distinguished historically black college (HBCU) Nickelson College as their stages, this group of friends battles racial oppression, overcoming self doubt, and claiming self reliance as they search for their own meanings of black American Exceptionalism, black classism, and most importantly, Hip-Hop as our inheritance through their respective callings. Welcome to Black Excellence: this is The Call.

From Brendan Whitt, the author of A Summer In Harlem and When the Crows Come Home comes his dramatic and episodic story about friendship. During the summer of 1967 a wealthy widow known as Ms. Cathy opens Camp Hope N' Oak, a progressive summer camp for children ages 11 to 13. Her hope is to create an environment where children can be free from the racial atmosphere they are subjected to in everyday life. In Cabin No.20 two black campers from different backgrounds bunk with two white campers. The new cabin mates get off to a rought start when one of them faces his own prejudices. Once over their racial misconceptions and assumptions Cabin No.20 goes in search of a secret "hangout" that the counselors go to when all of the campers are asleep. On their way to completing the mission each one of the boys must fight his own personal battles including the death of a close friend and fellow camper. ©2016 OPAL Beatrice Creative Company LLC.
