The fresh air was almost overwhelming, the blue sky with no clouds in site! It seemed to revive every part of Chells body. Freeman örneği yerleştirdiği anda spektrometre patlar ve Dünya ile Xen arasında bir portal açılır. Patlama sonucu Freeman kısa süreliğine Xen ışınlanır ve tekrar Dünya'ya döner. Freeman uyandığında patlamada yıkılan Anti Kütle Odasında olduğunu fark eder, bilim adamlarının ve güvenlik görevlilerini cesetlerini bulur. Freeman hayatta kalanları bulduğunda tesisdeki bütün iletişim yollarının kesildiğini öğrenir. Bu yüzden Freeman'ın görevi tesisin yüzeyine çıkarak yardım istemektir.

Following the Black Mesa Research Facility's incident, many severe catastrophes happened at their sister location, the Black Mesa Resources Department. This incident report was created in response to a massive explosion that resulted due to employee negligence. This section of the facility was shut down for months following the incident.
