In this story, Emily could be a 17th century courtisane, a 19th century prostitute or a nowadays strip-dancer. She could be crazy or the mirror and what it shows could be true. It is up to your interpretation. But what is certain is that this short story humbly tries to explore the human's psyche in its deepest and darkest aspects, treating the theme of depression, paranoia, obsession and body dismorphic disorder. (Written by a French 17 yo for an English literature project in which she had to choose an everyday object and describe it in a Lovecraftian way, giving it uncanny, magical and mysterious aspects.)
