Growing up in repressive, conservative Christian home was difficult for me. We didn't dare talk about sex, how our bodies were changing or any other topics our parents considered taboo, like getting tattoos or piercings. This short story is my personal account of the first time I did something for myself that I'd always wanted to do: get an upper ear piercing. It may not seem like much to you, but living in a repressive home like I did, just doing this simple thing for me felt like winning the lottery.
