Having spent an entire semester trying to stop and destroy The Beast - a mysterious, evil force - Quentin Coldwater discovers that it isn't his first run-in with it. Thanks to a powerful time spell, Quentin has had 40 chances to defeat the beast. In this story Quentin, Penny and Alice are desperate to rescue their classmates who have been kidnapped by the Beast. Using a powerful mirror traveling spell, Quentin, Penny and Alice are transported to Fillory to face the beast. What happens in Salem, stays in Salem. When Julia disappears, Quentin discovers a plan she's made to steal a weapon from the Salem Witch Trials that she thinks can kill the Beast. Q, Alice, and Eliot follow her plans hoping to find her and the weapon before the Beast finds them.

A creature has been relentlessly stalking Quentin and his friends, getting dangerously close to them, until it finally encircles them. Will this beast turn out to be the threat they assumed it to be, or a blessing in disguise? (#battlethebeast 1,500 word Syfy contest)

His enemy arrives unexpectedly as Quentin Coldwater searches for some clue that can help to defeat the Beast. Unprepared, the Beast whisks Quentin away, all the while hinting that Quentin might be ready for a real fight... one day.

so i figure out that should make a story about the magicians because i can Amanda Mathews live in a family of magic, but sadly her family died when she was 16 then she went off years later at 25 she could do magic and found Brakebills?

In Fillory, the air you breathe will either give you the power of gods, or choke the life out of you... An entry for the #BattleTheBeast contest promoting season two of THE MAGICIANS on the SyFy channel. This story's characters belong to the world of The Magicians. If you haven't read the books or watched the show, be aware that there are spoilers below. There have been 40 time loops created to destroy the Beast, a force of immense evil residing within Fillory. Season one of The Magicians deals with the 40th loop. This short piece was written with the following prompt in mind: create a story exploring one of the first 39 loops. Towards the end of season one, there is a scene taking place in Ember's abode in which Julia and Quentin are both present. Ember expresses surprise at seeing Julia. As it turns out, in most of the previous loops, Quentin had usually killed her by now. Our heroes shift uncomfortably at this revelation, which seems intended as a bit of dark humor. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this. I wrote another story for this contest working in an entirely different vein of thought, but still Ember's declaration stuck in my head. Why would Quentin, of all people, kill Julia? If you're a fan of the show, you know that when Dean Fogg tells Quentin and Julia they are reliving a timeline, it's also revealed that this 40th loop is the first in which Julia was not accepted to Brakebills. The hope was that the inner struggle resulting from her feelings of rejection would make her stronger. Stronger than what, I wondered. What occurred for Fogg to feel she needed greater strength? I took Dean Fogg's and Ember's words as hints of what may have happened in one of the other loops and ran with it. I hope you enjoy the resulting story!

This is my interpretation of what happened in the 16th timeloop that Quentin and his friends are stuck in, and their subsequent battle with the Beast.

When Quentin goes to Dean Fogg for the 22nd time he has more than truth serum up his sleeve. New questions get asked and a more cynical take on events becomes clear. Jane never simply resets the loop... she changes other things too. (An entry for SyFy's 'Battle The Beast' contest )

(Not an entry into the #BattletheBeast contest). Penny, in his trips to other worlds, stumbles upon one that houses an opportunity to summon a god. One that is trapped and yearning to break free. One that is, perhaps, willing to lend a helping hand to their cause of killing the Beast. All they have to do is navigate deceptive forests, avoid psychopathic pixies, religious fanatics and maybe do a little dance number, of a sort.

If esoteric school work weren't enough, Quentin has found himself destined to destroy the Beast - a mysterious, evil force that threatens multiple realities. In his quest to find the Beast, Quentin has discovered this is not the first time he has fought the monster. Thanks to a powerful time-spell, this is the 5th time he and his friends have gone head to head against this evil. And he's died every single time. The results of this last battle are - unexpected - in ways Quentin may not be able to survive.
