Do you remember/ the dreamcatcher you hung on my wall/ has frayed and broken along its leather seams/ the plastic beads have fallen/ and it yields to fear like/ a dam breaking under innumerable droplets of water. -------

The mirror loved her. Even after she leaves the room, the mirror kept her reflection for a long time as its most priced possession. It saw something in her that others haven't seen, that she hasn't seen. It loved her for who she is, for who she was, for who she will be. But the feeling was not mutual. She hated the mirror. It reminded her of things that she never liked to acknowledge. She saw herself in it as someone who doesn't belong to the so called beauty standards of the society. She wanted her to look like what others want, not what she really is. The shining reflective surface remind her of how unworthy she is, it just reminded her of how her whole personality turned in to a broken nose. The mirror wanted her to see the beauty that it sees in her, but she doesn't. Oh boy, she hated the mirror!! -------------------------------------------------- This is a humble story about a not- so- humble adolescent girl from a track in India. Her tale in this beauty conscious world is engrossing, catchy and worth reading.
