Bucky and Penelope have loved each other for a long time, but neither of them had the courage to say it. Penelope being an Army nurse stationed at the same camp as Bucky during World War 2, she watched him day in day out from a distance, admiring him. Little did she know, he was watching her too. So when Bucky's report comes in as Killed in Action after a mission with Steve Rogers, she can't accept it. She begs Howard Stark to take her out there to look without the others knowing. Shivering in the cold, a blunt object hits her in the back of the head and she's dragged into Hydra's base. She gets frozen along with Bucky. Years later, after the fight with Steve as the Winter Soldier, Bucky's mind is plagued with nothing but a name: Penelope Vegars. He needs to find her. He needs to see her again

Steve Rogers was not the type to walk away from a fight. He took every hit, got knocked down more times than he cared to count but he always got back up. What he lacked in height (or muscles) he made up in heart and guts. Another day, another alley and to no one's surprise; another fight. This time, Steve really chose the wrong opponent and got hurt, badly. As fate would have it, there was a small clinic only a few streets down. That's where he met Charlie Mathews, an absolute Brooklyn sweetheart that lived a very uneventful life. That was all before she met Steve. Before she met him. Bucky and Charlie have a short lived friendship before the inevitable happens and he gets drafted to go fight for his country. He knew it was bound to happen, he knew that going to war would be one of the hardest things he would have to do but having to leave his best girl behind left him heartbroken. Oblivious to the future that was waiting for him, Bucky made promises to her he won't live long enough to keep. Fate brought them together once and will do it again, but the universe doesn't give out happy endings so easily.

The world around me used to be so beautiful. A penthouse party filled with lavish boys, beats and booze. Until you fell into my life. You showed me the starry skies above. You took me to the street vendors below. You brought gravity into my world. And when you left.... All the stars dimmed by the city. All the streets emptied by the snow. All that's left is this unbearable weight of gravity bearing down on me. ...Cause I used to defy gravity. Set in a canon divergence where Steve found Bucky after CA:TWS, and Bucky has joined the Avengers. Also written in the first person point of view from the girl's perspective so that she can remain unnamed. Feel free to call her whatever you like. ^^ Note for those who don't know Bucky Barnes: You'll need to know that he is Steve/Captain America's best friend from WW2, and that he was experimented on, his memories wiped and brainwashed into being an assassin by the enemy, Hydra, who used him for 70 years before being sent to kill Steve. And maybe that he has a shiny robotic, left arm, and that he escaped Hydra. (There are random comments here and there so I can remember/keep track of the little things to this piece that I might not remember. Feel free to check them out or reply to them or ignore them altogether ^^)
