After summer lightning come the fires... Ken could smell the distinctive scent of burning eucalyptus. Although he was safely inside the house with the windows shut, smoke whispered through air vents and under doors, carried west from the bushfire raging out of control in the hills behind the city. A WINNER in the "Hella Bad Weather" photo contest by @The_Bookshop! (BTW This is basically the same story which appears in my Beach Apples collection, edited after feedback from the contest)

I wrote these poems as an Aussie farmer during the drought in 2019. 2019 was the last year of the drought, we had already suffered however for 4 years without rain. There were extreme bushfires swallowing the country and even worst dust storms that occurred multiple times a day, it felt there was no escape from the madness that had become our daily lives. These poems were a voice for that frustration and writing it down was my own personal plea of desperation. Right after the draught in 2019 however we got flooding in early 2020, welcomed flooding by most except for those who lost most of there homes and belongs. And well soon after that we had the pandemic hit Australia pretty hard where we went in lock down mid April. Everyday the news spreading so much fear. We were scared to leave our homes. Again I wrote more poetry to cope with the fact that we had just come from one hell the draught to now this new hell the pandemic! It honestly felt like tHe fried would never end. These poems are a representation of that time. I hope you all enjoy.

Emergency! Bushfires are devastating the North East of Tasmania, and Australia is once again on the brink of a national bushfire emergency. People run for their lives as the bushfires ravage homes, farms, and businesses. Firefighters bravely battle the flames, and ambulance and health care workers attend to those caught in the chaos. The Tasmanian Government send out a call for help to the Tactical Action Squad - an elite team of teenagers dedicated to protecting the people, land, and environment within Tasmania. T.A.S. members - Jimmy, Froggy, Kempton and Louie - jump into action to save the region from becoming the next major Australian tragedy.

Luke Hemmings was a wild chap. He wasn't like the other kids, he favoured guitars over the popular Australian pipe, the didgerydoo, he preferred a light swim over to mako island or the great barrier reef than the usual teen hobbies of playing with Koalas in the outback. He didn't fear bush fires, bush fires feared him. He thought of the black widow as a close family friend. And he had a loyal and trustworthy pack of dingos to do his dirty work (aka his laundry). That was until he met fellow Australian, Sheila (no surname provided)

"Fleeing from the flames" is written in such a way to allow the reader to literally imagine what the animals and wildlife felt when going through the recent bushfires, that must have been a vision depicting hell.
