A nineteen year old prince who paints butterflies, can't bluff to save his life, and recently lost his kingdom's entire historical record in under two hours - is being slowly, reluctantly, and somewhat accidentally shaped into a future king. His bodyguard is a walking statue with perfect hair who expresses the full range of human emotion through extremely subtle lip twitches. His father is a thunderstorm in a chair who is deeply tired but also, quietly, proud. It's a coming-of-age royal fantasy told by a Narrator who is snarky, self-aware, and occasionally too distracted to finish a sentence. Think The Princess Diaries meets Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell with the comedic energy of someone who has read too many history books and found all of them deeply funny. At its heart it's about a boy who was never supposed to be remarkable figuring out, slowly and somewhat catastrophically, that he might be. Also there's a goat. The goat is not the problem. Probably.
