Presently I sit in my bed waiting for my monthly doctor to arrive and give me my pain killer shot that 'helps the pain go away'. Ever since I was born I was allergic to the sun. I'm not the only one with this problem but it is very rare to see, and one of the major reasons why I get picked on at school. Vampire, demon, creeper, any 'clever' name they could make up in their hard-headed jock/cheer minds they spilled out their mouths and tweeted onto the Internet. Which lead to a different school every half year or so, each school came to the same conclusion. Depression. And I sunk deeper and deeper into it, sooner or later I won't be able to swim back up, I'll drown. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kaleb is not your average teenage girl, she is allergic from the one thing that lights up the sky each day. The sun. With her allergies, she is picked on, made fun of, and has dug herself into a deep hole of depression and not even her parents or her doctors can help her. From school, to school Kaleb has learned each one is the same as the last one, or is she wrong. West Hill Vanity High School has seemed a bit different from the past schools, a small group of peers notices Kaleb being bullied, and one group mates decide to speak up for Kaleb like everyone was afraid to do before.

Emily Hofferson has always been somewhat of a bystander. She's got lots of things to say and plenty of words to describe them with, but it's just never really come up in her daily life. However, after the United States has allowed gay marriage, her school is flooded with homophobia and hatred. People are ganging up against the known gays and lesbians of the school, plus any other person who does not fit the ideal type. Among this group is her best friend Haley Prescotts, who is a well-known LGBT supporter and has a rich girlfriend. Emily isn't sure what to do: should she continue being a bystander, or man up and become the upstander Haley has always told her she was and could be? It isn't until things start getting out of hand that Emily decides to make her move. "Heterosexual is the only sexuality that is allowed at this school," the principal announced. Emily begs to differ.

Avalon Matthews life is anything but perfect. She gets bullied and her parents hate her, what could be worse than that? Danny Brockman is the school's quarter back. Everybody loves him, he basically rules the school. Nobody stands up for Avalon, nobody knows what goes on in her life, that's because nobody cares, but he does. Danny hates seeing Avalon in this state, he hates it so much, but he doesn't stand up for her, because he cares about his reputation. But one Monday he's had enough.
