A ten minute short story, based on the legend of the general Belisarius being blinded by his Emperor, Justinian. It is almost certainly a legend, and not fact, but it makes for an interesting story.

Long ago, the Roman Empire stretched far across the known world. From Britain to Egypt, and from Iberia to Anatolia, Rome was the cradle of civilization. For centuries this was the status quo. Peace. Order. That era is long gone, a distant memory. The empire, though resilient enough to try reviving itself many times throughout the medieval period, would never again see the glories of the Pax Romana, with its strongest claimant being wiped off the face of the earth by the Ottomans in 1453. But what if things were different? What if the true successors of Rome not only survived and restored Roman glory, but, in true Roman fashion, did so after bouncing back from their lowest point? Here you will find a series of journal entries written by the sons of Rome starting with those who held their ground in Constantinople, and ending with their descendants who at last realized the dream almost 4 centuries later.
