I promise you love,
I promise you fear,
Grotesque horror to smear,
Crimson, beauty from above.
I promise you pleasure
I promise you pain
Lustful blood--do abstain!
From flesh's sinful treasure.
I promise you compassion
I promise you malice
Gorge'd gluttony from the vile chalice
Of vanishing virtue's passion.
I promise you sorrow
I promise you gladness
But life's monstrous madness
Devours all mind for the morrow
Think not on the passing sun,
Nor spare a moment for the moon.
To pause is death, so let thy feet run;
And taste not of Her boon.
Weep no tears to cry,
Lest footsteps damned be daunted
By creeping shadows haunted
In the Land where Death guides all
And where each night I die.
