"Done." Penelope had withdrawn her entire savings before leaving the site.
He took the money, counted it quickly, then gestured to his truck. "You ride in the back. Hidden compartment under the freight. It's not comfortable, but it's safe. We leave in ten minutes."
"Wait." Callisto touched Penelope's arm. "Are you certain? Once we do this, there is no return. Your career, your life here-"
"My career was studying the past," Penelope said. "But you're living history, Callisto. You're more important than any excavation, any paper I could write. And besides..." She managed a smile. "Someone needs to keep you from accidentally starting a war with modern technology."
Callisto laughed, a genuine sound that seemed to surprise the pharaoh as much as everyone else. "Then I suppose we're doing this."
