'decibels' highlights the clash between two elite ancient families after the Second Sino-Japanese War; a tale of prejudice, tradition, and a whole lot of scheming. Lily is an American Born Chinese. But even so, she's been told countless times during her childhood to never ever bring a Japanese boy home. So what does she do? She goes and marries one. Staring at him, with his dark caramel skin that seem to cover iron by the way his body was rippling with muscle. With each swing of the hammer he held, the muscles in his arms and chest just tightened up showcasing the strength he possesses. I was aware of a constant buzzing in my ear which I realized was the phone, Cleo was still talking to me on. Not being able to stray my eyes from the Greek God on the roof I whispered to Cleo. “There is a hot guy on the roof.” “I thought we were talking about your sister? Where does a hot guy fit into this?” asked Cleo. “Seriously, your ability to switch from one topic to the next quickly astonishes me!” “I’m not talking about my stupid sister; there is a smoking hot man on the roof right now!” I hissed at Cleo, seriously how could she not understand what I’m saying. “What man? There’s a man on your roof! Why are you still talking to me? Hang up the phone and call the police dammit. You know what, you’re obviously in shock I’m going to call them for you.” “Wait what, Cleo no! You don’t undertan……” click, Cleo was already hung up the phone. I looked at the phone hoping that that did not just happen. But the dial tone coming from the phone confirmed that it did happen. ____________________________________________________________ Trinity is a woman who has escaped the harsh realities of her life in a book. A manor, set amongst the rolling hills, between sprawling cities of 21st century technology. Vogel McClennan, seventeen, advocate of chewing gum, devotee of The Details and with no defined direction in life, finds herself thrown into the path of Detective Samuel Jacobs, tirelessly controlled and unpunctual, as an apprentice. A business call to the manor results in a death by morning, and certainly - in the style of such things - it is murder. Apprentice McClennan is in no way prepared for the hostilities of investigation, interrogation and - above all - mortality. But she has to be. The halls of Carroll House grow cold on the trail of a murderer, and amongst the eclectic residents, history and peril, a dance with a criminal taunts her at every turn.
