When Mr. Daniel came home after his surgery, his daughter thought everything would be okay. The doctor said he just needed rest, medication, and light movement. But the very first night, things went wrong. Daniel tried to get up alone because he didn't want to "bother" anyone. He slipped slightly, grabbed a chair for balance, and ended up hurting his arm. His daughter realized the hallway light was too dim, the medications were mixed up on the table, and she had no idea when to give the next dose. She felt scared - and guilty. She wasn't a nurse. And here's the thing, I could add so much more about the entire journey of what's going on at home, our family life, etc. This story will I will just try to keep it about what I felt and saw at the center. Try I say. I have notes in various bags around the house. I will update it as I find them because as you can imagine, when you get home from there, you just set things down and if you are like me, your mind is kind of chaotic when things like this are going on. Other parts of your life are orderly, but some parts are not. It has turned into more than just what it started out as. It is now a journey for this whole damned cancer sucks bad ride.

"Can't smell anything." he sighed, defeated. His lips were in a pout. He's been pouting a lot Harry noticed. Chuckling, he gently brushed away Louis' swoopy fringe that couldn't seem to quit falling into his eyes. "You know why? Cause you're sick." Louis only rolled his eyes. "Yeah, no shit H." The Story Behind Our Cover When I first embarked on this journey, my mother had many visions. Most were light, some dark, and others damn entertaining. But the one she saw most often and described in such detail was of a parade of well-dressed children who marched down Emmett Place and passed by her bedroom window. The girls held flowers, a single stem, or a bouquet, including her favorite, daisies. The boys held colorful balloons that bobbed in the wind. This parade also plays an integral role throughout "A Cup of Tea on the Commode." While editing the manuscript, my sister Caryl, out of the blue, sent me a batch of old black and white photos. One caught my attention. It captured Mom, eight years old, dressed in a frilly white dress, wearing patent leather shoes, sitting on a bench, with a flower in her hand. I don't recall ever seeing that photo before, but I couldn't help thinking that serendipity played a role in its timely arrival. This young girl fit in perfectly with Mom's parade, which left me no choice but to feature it on the cover. The handwritten title adds a soft touch and hints at the intimacy of the stories within. A pattern of daisies, her favorite flower, fills the background and reinforces the warm invitation to join me on my multi-tasking adventures of caring for Mom.
