Carmilla Karnstein has been going to the Masquerade for a while now. It reminds her of the old balls she used to attend back in the day, but it's still different enough. Laura is going to the Masquerade with her friends for the first time. They're the exact opposites of each other, and somehow that's what draws the one towards the other.
