In a world where there are no dictators, nor presidents. Where only Kings and Queens live. And a caste system is based upon the color of your eyes. In this world royals have the beautiful shade of silver, their eyes resembling melted iron. Government officials, alongside warriors, have an unshakable obscurity of red. The ones that are blessed with gold eyes are Priests and academics. Their eyes, much like royals, are a melted shade. A whirlpool of color. Now the ones who nobody hardly care about have a boring shade of emerald green. The eye color of green belongs to the low classes of commoners- peasants and servants. Our last class happens to be blessed with the most beautiful shade for their eyes, but for an odd reason the shade of purple is looked down upon. More or less, a disgrace. The shade of violet belongs to the untouchables; whom everyone treats like dirt, doing whatever they please to the lowest of the lowest. And our protagonist has the unruly shade of purple. ----------------------------------

His efforts to give refuge to the unmentionables of a divided nation are forever imprinted in history; however, his means didn't bring about favorable ends. The bourgeoisie are still wealthy. Religion is being used to force subjugation. And illness has become common place for the destitute. The only remnants of Grieve's teachings are alive and working in Corbyn Hawkes, a doctor who has a soft spot for missing limbs and a son destined to be an innovative engineer.

Nyla was going mad. She couldn't differentiate between right and wrong. Blood from the pads of her icy fingers splattered on the marble floors. Her skin was cold to the touch, her body was sweating profusely. She couldn't have done it. Could she? She wouldn't have. Would she? It had to be him. She hoped it wasn't her. She was dizzy, vision blurring, the world spinning. Her stomach was twisting inside. She shouldn't have come to Naiklen. He walked inside. To her, he looked upside down, defying all laws of gravity. Tall and built, she stood no chance against him. He stood in front of her and stared. Blood dripped on his newly-polished leather shoes. Her knees became limp and she collapsed. They may have not known, but they definitely used their wealth against us. She wanted the Colson family dead at last. Even if she had to do it. They didn't deserve this air. Violet Holden never expected her life to even remotely resemble that of a movie star's, but she had hoped she would have amounted to something by the time she was out of college. Before, she used to spend her days at a desk, flipping though textbooks trying to pass an overpriced class; now her days are filled with endless hours in front of her typewriter. Her life seemed completely and utterly dull until a boy with a permanent scowl, dark gaze and an even darker jacket moved in next door. Now her head is filled with wishful thinking, and embellished dreaming that obscures her perception of the unwinding world within the high-rise. My adaptation of J. G Ballard's novel and soon to be movie, HIGH-RISE, written in the Ballardian style.

A kind of modern-day sequel to the story "The Renunciation" by Rabindranath Tagore. Not necessary to read the story but strongly advised if you want to get all the references. Can also be read as a stand-alone.
