A set of four Clans inhabit the forest below a vast mountain range. They are all fierce, loyal, and brave cats, but one cat is destined to be braver than them all... "Courage will prove itself at the claws of its own Clanmate, warrior will turn against leader, and the forest will be ripped apart." This prophecy was foretold to the DawnClan medicine cat many moons before its events. The leaders of each Clan kept a lookout for any happenings that foreshadowed the prophecy. The birth of Bravekit was the beginning of it all.

Sarabi is a kittypet that hates her life. Her owners mistreat her, the local kittypets always scratch her and she is always sick. One day, she decides she's had enough and runs away. She stumbles into a ThunderClan patrol with Firestar in it and faints after fighting the three fierce -looking cats. They take her back to camp, and, after convincing her they won't kill her, rename her Frostpaw. In her new home, Frostpaw is very happy... until a terrifying prophecy that includes her is spewed out by the medicine cat, Leafpool. I don't own any of the characters except non-book names.

Many, many moons after the original four clans left the lake. Another group of cats was making their own clans in a territory. They broke away from the Tribe of the Rings of Fire, and set off to make traditions of their own and start a new life. They split into five groups. Frostclan, lived in the caves at the base of a mountain and the pine trees in the surrounding area. Rippleclan lived on a beach, and fished out of the Stream of Stars and fished crabs out of the sand. Alderclan, lived in the alder tree forests and ate squirrels and mice. Grassclan lived in the rolling plains and ate hares and birds, and finally there was Shadeclan, the cats that lived in the dark marshes and ate rodents. All five clans were doing well and thriving. Several generations later, there was a she-cat named Featherkit, who may be destined to be much more than a regular warrior.

Larkkit, Shadekit, and Tinykit are always shadowed by Sparkkit and Ivykit. The two litter mates have caught the eye of ThunderClan's leader and medicine cat, and ThunderClan's warriors haven't failed to notice it. Praised around every corner, Sparkkit and Ivykit believe they are better than the rest. Tinykit begs to differ, Shadekit feels unwanted, and Larkkit is left in the middle.
