How do you unlearn love when it's all you've ever known?
For years, Magda has been nothing short of the "perfect" girlfriend - the one who forgives too easily, apologizes when she's not even in the wrong, and will stop at nothing to prove her devotion. But when this rural town girl from the south sets foot in the bigger city and encounters new challenges in her already difficult relationship, she's faced with a choice: to endure with the familiar, or risk everything for a chance to grow.
Enter Gaege - a boy who's spent the last school year strung along by someone who never chooses him, yet never really let go either. But now, he's longing for something real.
Magda doesn't want stagnancy. Gaege doesn't want inconsistency.
So when the two find themselves weighing between right and wrong, and getting tangled in their own - and each other's - pasts, both of them are left to ponder on the question: are they really ready for something different?
Set in modern day Silliman University and inspired by true events, The Way That We Are is a story about breaking cycles, messy healing, and finding love where you least expect it.
