WATTPAD BOOKS EDITION. There are some friends you never forget. It's the summer of 1955. For Ethan Harper, a biracial kid raised mostly by his white father, race has always been a distant conversation. When he's sent to spend the summer with his aunt and uncle in small-town Alabama, his blackness is suddenly front and center, and no one is shy about making it known he's not welcome there. Enter Juniper Jones. The town's resident oddball and free spirit, she's everything the townspeople aren't-open, kind, and accepting. Armed with two bikes and an unlimited supply of root beer floats, Ethan and Juniper set out to find their place in a town that's bent on rejecting them. As Ethan is confronted for the first time by what it means to be black in America, Juniper tries to help him see the beauty in even the ugliest reality, and that even the darkest days can give rise to an invincible summer . . .

WATTPAD ORIGINAL EDITION In 1955, mixed-race Ethan Harper leaves his progressive hometown for a summer in Alabama where he's not welcome, except by resident free spirit, Juniper Jones. ***** After getting himself into a bout of trouble, 16-year-old Ethan Harper's parents send him to Ellison, Alabama, to live with his aunt and uncle for the summer. But the year is 1955, and Alabama is a far cry from his beloved home of Arcadia, Washington. As much as it's hotter in temperature, it's colder in every other way, and Ethan learns the hard way that people see his mere existence as a threat. Amidst all the mayhem, a fiery, free-spirited, oddball walks into Ethan's life. Her name is Juniper Jones. She is the first person in Ellison who seems unfazed by their racial differences, and she promises to give Ethan a summer he will always remember, filled with endless adventure and discovery. With Juniper, Ethan can breathe, he can be, despite the incessant attention and bullying their newly formed friendship attracts. Can the two survive the summer, run in the light and block out the noise of the outside world? [Published version comes out June 16, 2020 with Wattpad Books!] [[word count: 70,000-80,000 words]]

Something suddenly flashed in his eyes but disappeared as quickly as it appeared. "Princess" he whispered. "I don't know what's going on but I'm not going to give up." That was it. I started crying again. My walls, I had spent so long building them. Why was he doing this to me? He took a step back as he saw my hands shaking. "I promise you that one day I'll be able to help you dry those tears. I might not be able to understand what's happening now but I won't stop until I do. I don't care what it is because I'm going to do whatever it takes for you to trust me. I don't know what it is Xiomara, but there is something drawing me to you." "Elijah" my silent sobs were now audible cries. Her plan was simple. Whatever you do- Don't fall in love. Xiomara Winter left home with one plan. She was moving cities to have a fresh start- a new beginning. This was going to be her personal rehabilitation. A new home in a new city with quite possibly, new friends. She had one exception however, not to get too close to anyone and more importantly, not to fall in love. All of that changed however, when she met him.

Imagine what life would be like if we never had the brightness of the moon or the comfort of the stars. Imagine what it would be like if the sun set and the sun stayed blank. One way or another, there's a sense of optimism in those scenarios. Because the moon is here and so are the stars. For Aneesa there was nothing more beautiful to her than the night sky. She used to compare everything to its beauty. Art was her moon and color, her stars. Nowadays the moon is a misshapen block of cheese, overly colonised by the humans and the stars are only there to remind her of how far away they are from all her problems and how close she is to them. ------ I always thought that happiness was easy you know? I thought that if there's something I've always wanted since I was a kid, and I did my best to get it then it'd be like magic and It would all rush in and I'd be the person I'd always imagined myself to be. Well, news flash! I'm in London now living the dream life! Either completely unable to manifest positive feelings or on the verge of a panic attack. I can't even walk past a group of bloody teenagers without being scared to death that one of them thinks I look like a voodoo witch! Worst of all, I can't figure out why. My therapist thinks I should get a therapist, my sister thinks I should get a husband and my parents think I should go back home to live with the rats, dogs and wall geckos. And the worst of all those wild animals, my sister. But don't worry about me, I'm fine. Just woke up on the wrong side of bed is all.

"Isabella-Rose wait! Rosie! Wait, please stop!" but I didn't listen I just kept going, the humiliation was just giving me enough motivation to get far away from him as fast as I can. But then then he eventually caught up and stepped in front of me and he held my big shoulders. But I refused to look at him in the eye so my eyes were glued to the ground. "Look at me." he said with such a demanding tone that I just gave in and looked up. "I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings, I told you that I love you and that I care about you, but just not the way you want me to. You're my best friend's niece Isabella-Rose. You're like my little sister. I deeply care about you, and I like our conversations, I don't want us to stop talking to each other. But I'm just way too old for you, I'm 24 you're 17 that's a 7 year age gap. That's way too old." as he said all this I couldn't stop thinking of how foolish I've been.
