Atwater Woods is home to hundreds of different anthropomorphic animal clans who have an abundance of technology available to them. Sparked by a group of common rats being abducted, a chain of events leads to a war between the clans in Atwater Woods and its three surrounding forests. A silver-haired rat named Alfie, who has a disposition for recklessness, falls prey to the blooming war, but becomes involved when his clan is repeatedly targeted by larger beasts. His pregnant wife Cheshire, a more responsible and logical version of her husband, wants Alfie to survive to see their babe born though would rather help him fight than remain on the sidelines as a bystander. The destitute cat clan is desperate for food whereupon the loyal Russian Blue cat Amos is relied on to provide for his faction; Amos hoping to end their hunger by offering up Alfie's clan. A violent king snake called King wants nothing more than to kill others to show his prowess in murder, but finds himself a prisoner of the infamous bat clan of High Peak Mountain. This bat clan hopes to spread their dominance over Atwater Woods while systematically enslaving other creatures including the crow Korvus and a bat known as Batskins. Meanwhile, there is a creature who can shape-shift into anything that it kills and therefore blend in though no one seems to know who or what it is.

Obviously, professional help is in order, and who could be more fit for the job the Varian Telle, himself? The pair of them enter into a contract: he finds the Imperfect whom her parents have raised in her place, and she, in return, pays him enough money to smuggle himself out of the country.

After being left to grow up among her kind in a human village, Rose finally turns 20 and eagerly awaits the return of her Vampire Lord to bring her to his Western Castle. However to claim the throne upon the death of his father, Lord Etienne Arceneaux returns has to marry a Pureblood Vampire within 60 days. And with hyena Changelings attacking human villages in his lands, how will Rose and Etienne deal with these obstacles while trying to feed their attraction to each other?
