I met her on the platform.
Jade, at the time, had this look to her you couldn't find anywhere else. Perhaps, I just didn't dare to look away from her to try, out of fear she'd be gone when I looked back. As the train arrived, we stepped into the first near empty car I'd had in years. She sat perpendicular to me a bench down with her eyes fixed on the emptiness of the car and then me. Her smile was something out of a period piece, of another time, and so full of warmth. The coldness of New York's October air crept in as she began to pack her things, I guess her stop was next. The urge to ask for her number, to ask anything of her if it meant getting to be near her longer was unbearable. Yet I watched on as the car halted, as she glided towards the doors and out of my life.
I only knew one thing about her then.
...She got away.

This is a short love story that was born into my brain after listening to Chappell Roans single Subway. That being said though, out of respect for Chappell as a person, I make this very clear that this story was not made to mirror her experiences nor were any characters in this work based off real life people. I hope we can all enjoy this story with respect, thank you so much!
