A young widow trying to survive, a ghost with an agenda, and the boat they share. Cyd Denlinger (a young woman conflicted by choices) wants to forget her late, philandering husband, keep her family from running her life, and regain her commercial boat captain's license. What she doesn't want is to be involved with an old flame OR a ghost. But the nagging ghost offers a trade that's hard to resist. "Find my killer!" she demands. In exchange, Cyd will own the boat Snapdragon. Easy for a ghost to offer something she can't use. Not so easy to solve a murder with too much help from family and friends. During Prohibition, a waterman on the Chesapeake Bay works as a part time rumrunner, smuggling moonshine across the bay. Despite his wife's misgivings, he decides to make one final run.

One-half Michener’s “Chesapeake” and one-half “To Kill a Mockingbird”, "A Silent Tide" follows the path of attorney David Forbes who, with his wife and two children, moves to this small southern community to escape his hectic world as a Federal Prosecutor in Washington D.C. What Forbes wanted was the quiet world of a country lawyer and to raise his family in the land of steamed blue crab, salt water marsh, nesting ospreys and the great tranquility of the Chesapeake Bay. What he got was an idyllic life sent into a tailspin when he gets appointed to represent Billups and commits the unforgivable sin of believing his client is an innocent man. This is going to be a book about the wonderful place I live, Chincoteague Island! Chincoteague Island is a little island on the Eastern Shore, and it's a lot different then living in the country, or the city.
