Opowiadanie pt. "Mecenas" przedstawia historię rozgrywającą się w Nowym Jorku w latach 90-ych minionego wieku. Główny bohater, Dżanus, jest młodym Polakiem, który wyemigrował do USA. Pewnego dnia koleżanka z pracy prosi go o wspólną podróż do New Jersey. Obie postacie są zarysowane paroma „pociągnięciami pędzla", parę szczegółów, obrazowych sugestii wystarczyło, żeby pokazać tych dwoje oraz opowiedzieć ich prozaiczną historię doprawioną nutką humoru i dramaturgii oraz błyskotliwymi dialogami.
