I've always thought there was something deeply unfair about getting everything you wanted only after you stopped wanting it. But if I'm being honest, after waiting this long, by the time I finally get something I actually wanted, it just doesn't feel special anymore. My life has a lot of maybes. Maybe I'm depressed. Maybe it's my luteal phase. Maybe this is just who I am. I just wish life would stop making me work so hard for things other people seem to receive without asking. That was the thing about me. I was always late. Or, in some cases, not late at all. Just never chosen. I suppose I spent too much time convincing myself there had to be a reason. That maybe the excuses weren't excuses. Or maybe I'm not just a side character at all. Late to everything that mattered. And on the night I finally decided I was tired of waiting, tired of hoping that maybe, just maybe, things would eventually make sense, I made the kind of decision that should have been completely out of character for me. Or maybe it was the most honest thing I'd ever done. I just didn't know which one yet.

When Shadow enters her life, he doesn't just read her writing-he understands it. And slowly, he understands her. Moreover, she understands him. And what if their understanding is a story waiting to be written or what if the only place they ever truly worked was inside the story she rewrote to survive him? Because sometimes, the happiest ending exists only on the page-and the real ending is the one you learn to live with. A story of an almost right timing.

The yearbook said, for all posterity to remember: Least likely to succeed at being worth knowing. She never forgot. She never forgave. Ten years later, she's the only person in the room who knows exactly how incongruous that is. The invitation came with a handwritten note: We understand if this isn't the right time for you. Do they? Do they really? Maybe it's time they found out appearances can be deceptive. For ten days, nobody at her reunion will know who she really is. They'll have her name. That's all. Not what she's built. Not what's actually happening forty feet away. She just needs someone convincing enough to make sure nobody looks too closely. He says yes. It's going to cost her more than she thinks.

On the University of Toronto campus he's the golden boy, the star of the hockey team, and exactly the kind of person Hayden can't stand. He's arrogant, reckless, and infuriatingly charming. Plus, he makes it all worse when he insisted on sitting next to her in class just to annoy her, like it's his full time job. Unbeknownst to Hayden, he really does like her and would do anything to be with her, even if it's not for real. So that's why she's fuming when he suggests they fake date.
