All Ren wants is to be left alone. After withdrawing ten years ago to leave someone-- or something-- behind, Ren has lived alone in her cabin. Nobody to see her. Nobody to talk to her. Nobody to use her. But when a strange girl shows up at her doorstep and refuses to leave, Ren is forced to come back into life and face the world she left behind-- for better or worse. All Piya wants is to be an adventurer! Twelve years old with only her lute and the clothes on her back, Piya Nightclaw is a young bard with a big voice. She's going to make her name known, and going on huge adventures is the perfect way to do it! Unfortunately, her skill won't take her far if nobody will give her a chance. But she's gotten as far as she has by being good at what she does and refusing to listen to naysayers, and she's not about to stop. When she finds her way to a grizzled old woman living in the woods, she's thrilled-- a retired adventurer! And she's going to mentor Piya whether she likes it or not! All Tok wants is to feel safe... He did, once. Kinda. Sorta. But since the day he escaped to the surface, his entire life has turned upside down. After being captured by siren hunters and saved by a small adventuring party, he ends up traveling with them, hoping to reach a city where he can finally be protected. But the past has a way of creeping back in... Has he really escaped what he ran away from? And what happens if his past comes for his new companions? For fans of Dungeons and Dragons and other fantasy RPGs, Starsong is the story of a rag-tag party from wildly different lives, brought together by a search for stability and life. But, of course, life isn't that easy, not when you get involved in magic deals, traps, and even conspiracy along the way... -- Notes: This content the maturity of a middle-grade novel, and as such, I kindly ask all readers to refrain from swearing or inappropriate speech while commenting. Look, I *wish* anything I'm about to say made sense. I really do. But I guess if your mother going to prison and your foster mother bringing home a strange device from her company teaches you anything, it's that things don't have to make sense to be true. I don't know how Project Mythos works. All I know is that nothing has been the same since Delphi decided to mess with it. Gods, I hope Frank and Coral are okay. None of this is what I'm really trying to tell you, is it? I think I should start from the beginning. That's what Coral always said to do. Where does this story even start? The day the agent came? The day my mom got arrested? No, I know there's only one answer, really. The day Frank got that text. ----- Notes: Hey all! This isn't a new series-- this is the first chapter or two of another one of my stories. I won't update it very much as I'm focusing on Starsong, but I wanted to post the first few chapters here for feedback! Please be sure to tell me what you think and if this is the kind of project you'd like to see continued after Starsong is finished! Credit: This cover was made by @GraveyardSiren! Thank you so much!
