Ocean wakes up after a very vivid nightmare. When she wakes up on Monday, September 14, the day she gets to skip school for the Kiwanis International Singing competition. Afterwards they get to spend the rest of the day at the Fall Fair. However, something doesn't feel quite right. As they're in line for Constance's favorite ride, The Cyclone, the feeling gets worse. The only other choir member who feels like something is even slightly wrong is the new girl Penny Lamb.

Halite Montgomery is terrified of high school. She barely was able to make it through middle school with her shy personality, not wanting to talk to anyone or anyone to talk to her. She doesn't know who she'll survive. Calcite Montgomery is worried about his sister. He's popular, but she's not. He can't always be there to look out for her but she wants her to be safe and okay with starting high school. Then Calcite also is crushing on the sweetest girl in his eyes, but can't tell his sister because that would just get complicated for many reasons. Mica Winters has a crush on someone he thinks will never like him back. She isn't the girl who has a crush easily. And he can't even ask his best friend about it. And now he's looking out for her, maybe that means she'll grow feelings towards him? That's what he's hoping. Olivine Lopez the new girl and she's torn between being friends with someone who needs a friend and having a true friend or being with the cheerleaders where she knows she fits in. Or at least she thinks. Breccia Tate is just the most popular girl in school. Head of the cheer squad. Every boy worships her and wants to date her, except one. Which she's NOT happy with and will not tolerate one boy not liking her.
