Adelynn "Addie" Parker is fourteen and just trying to get through school in New York City while keeping everything else in her life from quietly falling apart. At home, things feel heavy and complicated in ways she doesn't fully know how to explain, and school becomes the only place that feels steady.
That is where she meets Mrs Johansson, an English teacher who notices what others miss and seems to understand Addie in a way no one else does. What begins as small moments after class slowly turns into something Addie relies on more than she expected: a sense of being seen, heard, and safe.
As the school year moves toward its end, Addie finds herself struggling with change, attachment, and the fear of losing the one place that has come to feel like home. Growing up was never meant to feel like this complicated, and letting go turns out to be harder than she imagined.
