Reader is Brooke Marsh, you had a pretty normal life in Hawkins with your friends, till one event turned your whole life upside down. You were forced to leave school, leave friends behind with a little to no additional explanation and moved to another town with a lie. After two years, you return back to Hawkins Highschool to finish your senior year. You meet your best friends again Steve, Robin and Nancy. But also some new high school boys Billy Hargrove and Eddie Munson but with the necessary high school drama. The story takes place in the 1980s, there's not really a specific year. Eleven has powers, but Vecna is not mentioned. Most of the characters who died in the series are still alive.
