Synopsis
In the sprawling, corrupt capital of the Song Dynasty, Bianjing is a city of two faces: the opulent lives of the court and the desperate, darkened halls of the Willow Pavilion. Shen Man, sold into the Pavilion at sixteen, has spent two agonizing years surviving the cruelty of her rivals and the suffocating greed of Madam Wu. Possessing a beauty that is both her greatest asset and her most dangerous cage, she is the Pavilion's top earner-an honor that ensures she will never be permitted to leave.
When she discovers that her path to redemption is a rigged game designed to keep her enslaved, Shen Man decides to stop playing the victim and starts playing the game. She sets her sights on Wei Shuxi, the "Devil of the Court"-a cold-blooded, powerful official who controls half the Emperor's council and hides a heart as fractured as her own.
What begins as a calculated plot to seduce her way to freedom transforms into a dangerous, high-stakes game of politics and desire. As Shen Man and Wei Shuxi navigate a web of betrayal, their initial transactional arrangement turns into a volatile, possessive intimacy. In a world where trust is a liability and ambition is the only currency, Shen Man must decide how much of her soul she is willing to trade to destroy the cage that holds her-and whether the man who helps her escape will become her savior, or her final captor.
