The stories say that there were once ten clans that all lived in harmony, protecting the Desert Terrains from the fearsome picarats, vicious and cruel sea marauders that came inland to wage war and pillage other hapless desert settlements. An incident with a cobra leaves Wyte half crippled, though he manages to save Jesse and his infamous infant band from being eaten in the process. When two picarat deserters are rescued from the woodlands by the oasis foraging crew, Wyte finds his world turned upside down. The picarats kidnap Jesse and Ivy, and Wyte finds himself in a difficult situation. Once again, he is the only one who can save his friends. But will he ever see his home again, a place where he has never belonged in the first place? Will he be able to survive a new life, one he's never before imagined?
