In 2015, I sat in the library observing the bodies that floated outside, on the pavement below the glass building. That place, that time, the feeling, it still feels like I'm there and time has stood still. I was trying to remember to breathe by counting the dark shadows cast from the bodies below. One morning I woke up with an anxiety attack, and I decided that week I would fight back by toughing it out. But i don't have words for how it feels to be alone and scared and all you can think of to take your mind off of your own thoughts is to tell yourself a story. So I did. I narrated the world below.

HI, my name is jaidah the girl who started out with no friends and was shy to make any. One day on AUGUST 25 2013 was my first day at claremont in 6th grade. I went to school with my mom which was sooooo embarassing she took me to all my classes. My mom seen her friend and her daughter (which was my first friend) and they were chatting i looked at her she looked at me . Then out of no where my mom yelling saying "have met njeri " everybody looked at me i was really nervous. then i said yes... quietly so everyone wont here me but them.
