Fourteen-year-old Vezzuo Azmaismawe, heir to one of the last bloodlines of the Shweinn Empire, has been raised to embody perfection. Brilliant, disciplined, and politically groomed, he is admired by authority and isolated from his peers. Though he senses corruption beneath the government's promises of stability, he remains silent-too young, too watched, and too carefully shaped to speak.
Everything changes when he befriends Josh, a delinquent boy who lives loudly in a country that punishes noise. Through Josh, Vezzuo discovers the human cost of Shweinn's lies: disappearances, executions, and propaganda masked as order. Together, they investigate the truth the state refuses to acknowledge-only to be captured, tortured, and erased.
Under coercion, Josh confesses to crimes that shatter Vezzuo's trust, including the murder of his uncle. Betrayed and grieving, Vezzuo turns against his friend and is used by the government to reinforce its power.
When Josh later faces execution, Vezzuo finally breaks his silence, exposing the state's hidden crimes and bringing down the regime. Though the country is saved and Vezzuo is named a national hero, the damage between the two boys lingers.
Did they end the corruption...
or merely teach it how to survive?
