The smoke wraps tendrils around your legs and sinks into your skin. Dry coughs scrape their blunt nails down your throat and the smoke penetrates deeper, sliding a hand around your neck and s q u e e z i n g. Everything is blurry now. Your breath comes in short, sharp bursts. You hear hoarse sobs in between rasping coughs. Blood and saliva drips onto the dead grass. Too late. *** It's always the quiet, unassuming events that foretell the end. That's where the movies get it wrong. The world won't go out with a bang. It will slowly burn right in front of our eyes as we pretend that we like the warmth. Then when we finally come to our senses and we are no longer blinded by money and greed, it will be too late. A collection of short speculative fiction and poetry pieces that explore the fine line between dystopia and reality.

[Wattpad Picks: Editors' Choice] In a world ravaged by global warming, there is the Offering: A rite in which every eighteen-year-old woman in each village leaves their home in search of a husband. Bloodlines must be varied, the Elders say. Genetic variation is of the utmost importance for their livelihood. But Talia, an Offering, questions the methods and is uncooperative with the Elder's rules. Never one to follow the road others have set before her, she shirks the constraints of the Offering. As she travels, a chance meeting with an intriguing stranger reveals that nothing is as she thought it was and proves there are people in this world who understand her. Despite her growing attraction to the alluring stranger, she dares not trust him. Armed with her new world-view and fighting unforeseen enemies, her decisions will determine the fate of her home. Earth stinks - at least, that's what Wishwash, a huge, wobbly blue alien with spikes everywhere, thinks. One ordinary day in a quiet city square, 44 year old Alex and nine teenagers are suddenly chosen for a mission that will change everything. Abducted by aliens, they're thrown into a world of strange technology, impossible food, and visions of Earth's past, present, and potential future. The planet's survival depends on them - their ideas, their courage, and the rules they create. With just one year to rethink power, responsibility, and humanity itself, can ten Earthlings rise to the challenge, or will the planet's fate spiral out of control? Sci-fi, adventure, and a touch of humor collide in this story of choice, responsibility, and what it really means to care for your world.

Delta had always wanted to start a family, she would always speak about how she was born to be a mother. Her plans were to graduate from the university she had spent four years at and then settle down after a few months of working; the typical plan for most. Her plans were altered once the world realised how much trouble they had gotten themselves into. They had always known deep down what their consumer habits had been doing to the health of their home, but it was never a true concern until it was too late. No one had done studies to understand the effects of gestation under so much pressure and so little distance between the Earth's core and the host. Delta had taken a semester of research during her nursing school career, but it certainly didn't give her the full credentials to explore her interests with government funding. She's willing to risk her own health to discover her answers, but her husband thinks otherwise. Note: This story contains mature themes. It's not going to be graphically sexual but it also may be hard for younger readers to completely understand.

Cli-fi or climate sci-fi centres on the reasons and outcome of climate change here on old Earth as well as potential means to prevent the worst. As such, cli-fi often has a darker tone, but who said that there can't be an upside to it? And of course, climate change can happen on other planets as well - and perhaps even be seen as something good by some? A large new subgenre to explore for the writers of the mothership!

Book One of the New Enlightenment A realistic science fiction novel set in the not-so-far-away future. The relentless effects of climate change have driven Earth to its breaking point: catastrophic storms, raging wildfires, mass extinctions, and an unstoppable wave of human migration. Governments are paralyzed, and corporations are blinded by profit, ignoring the collapse of the very society they depend on. As poverty, starvation, and global conflict spiral out of control, the world teeters on the edge of chaos. But not everyone is ready to surrender. Solar Umbrella is a gripping tale of survival and innovation, where a small group of visionaries, led by Parker Varia, refuse to accept defeat. With the clock ticking, they set out to design and build a revolutionary device that could reverse the ravages of climate change. Standing in their way are powerful corporate forces and the unforgiving march of time. Yet, amid the despair, Parker and his team dare to hope, believing that their actions could reignite the spark of optimism and change the course of humanity's future.

Global warming, global cooling, what if all the predictions are right? Or worse, what if all the predictions are wrong? Can humans truly hope to understand the complexities attendant on such changes, never mind explain their relationships and predict their effects? The people at WBI - Walden Biodiversity Institute - think they can. At the very least, they intend to prepare as well as possible for the changes to come, whatever they may be. This is not a story of tragedy and despair. This is a story of possibilities and hope, of dreams and perseverance. If you want to know what the future could bring, should bring, start here. " ...this future sounds amazing. Not for the first time, I wish the world was more like your stories..." Utopian dreams and technological innovations. Not merely airy wishful dreams of what it would be like to be there, but realistically hopeful dreams of how to get there. This story could be a revelation of what our next twenty years will bring.
