School is for learning, but not for the things they teach you. All they teach you is how to remember. Memorize the table of elements for the pop quiz which is bound to come, flip through your deck of vocabulary cards until you can say them all backwards without pause, know your speech inside and out because you can't bring notes up when you present. But then you forget it all over the weekend and start from scratch. What you're really learning are the in's and out's of gossip and drama; deciphering what is true and what is false. You learn how to fall in love and get your heart broken, maybe even break a heart yourself. Some teach themselves what it truly means to stand up for yourself while others find comfort in the walls they've built up. These are all lessons Autumn Duncan will find herself immersed in this year; and it all starts in study hall.
