Before we were always running, we lived with our mom jane and our dad Matt. We were a happy family but we didn't have that much money. When Lorri was little, she got gravely ill, and we couldn't afford to pay her medical expenses. We had no choice but to go to the black market. They said that they could give us a loan and that we could pay the money back when they came for it. We started to save up, but the black market collector, Jeremy, came too soon. When we told him we didn't have enough to pay him back he was furious. He must have thought I was old enough to get a job and pay him back, because he shot my parents point blank. That was my warning, he told me that if I didn't come up with the money in two months she would come back for Lorri. I was scared and didn't know what to do, so I took Lorri and ran.

This short story was a funny little thing between my brother and I. We came up with an idea for a story each and had to write a short story of the others idea. You might know the stories of knights slaying dragons, soldiers marching off into battle, warriors fending off hoards of monsters. But when an ancient spirit gets awoken into a not quite ancient world, things don't work out the way they do in the books.
