"There is a smell of murder. The walls drip with blood." From Agamemnon by Aeschylus. Queen Clytemnestra, the original femme fatale, rules the powerful ancient kingdom of Mycenae, kills her husband when he returns victorious from the Trojan War, and takes his cousin as his consort. Enter her world, where men dominate, where family duty is paramount, and women do as they're told. Clytemnestra, sister to the devastatingly beautiful Helen of Troy, is destined to marry a man of her father's choosing and leave her home to be queen of a land she's never set foot in. That is, until her childhood friend, Agamemnon, decides he wants her for his own. Betrayal is a double edged sword -- what drives the obedient, dutiful Clytemnestra to betray?

Agamemnon gets his own poem. This came out of the previous one but it was getting kinda long for Instagram. Beside the Mycenaeans didn't have dossiers and I wanted to keep the rhyme. "He'd give his life for hers" refers to Iphigenia. I'd have written "He'd have given his life for hers" but that would put me over on syllables.

I have always adored Greek mythology, trying to consume as much knowledge as I could, about famed Paris, Jason, Agamemnon, Theseus and mighty Zeus. But more interesting still have I found the women that's stood beside them. And especially those who stood against them. I would like to cover the Mother's, Maidens, Wives, Spurned lovers, Monsters and Goddesses that live in Greek Myth and are so painfully ignored. Also, the painting is 'The anger of Achilles' by Jacques-Louis David Updates will be sporadic but hopefully not too long in between
