This story is about a son not having his father because he's always working in a coal miner. The son grows up without his father so he starts hanging with some boys on the street. The son finds out what drugs are and he has bad experience with it as well. He even overdoses while his dad is at work and the father finally gets the call his sons in the hospital and they don't know if he's going to make it.

A sales rep stops his company Vectra to eat a pie in Kirkcaldy, and a story comes on the radio about an old guy who taught him to drive a bus. The instructor's had a bad accident, and although the cause seems obvious, the sales rep suspects other reasons. As he reminisces about his time as an Edinburgh student, driving buses in the summer holidays, he recalls some unsavoury events; for instance, how did his clippy know the provenance of a turd on the upper deck...?
