And then, she spoke. "I'll never let them do that to me again. NEVER AGAIN." The OR felt like it had plummeted into absolute silence. My mind short-circuited. That wasn't-she wasn't supposed to be-this wasn't happening. Right? No one else reacted. Not a single person even flinched. No gasps. No confusion. No "what the hell was that?" Just steady hands and surgical precision, as if nothing had happened. Except for him.
