When a young man named Julian ("the Sumerian child" or "number 28") has been brought into a strange world after drinking the water from a peculiar river, and in said world he is introduced to a beast (Vernon, "the vernal son) who latter deserts him in a realm of darkness after being chased by this monster. When Julian attempts to escape from oblivion, unfortunately it turns out that his plans were all in vain, as Vernon throws him right back into the depths of darkness, however this time he discovers a gate leading to a room, and in said there lies a woman ("The Truth or Verity), who tells him that if he wishes to return to his world he must climb the moutain of Jenn where he will be trained by a great warrior known as "Honour", but when he gets there his mentor has different ideas; after executing Honour's plan, he is chased down the mountain by a strange lady who later turns out to be "the daughter of Winter", (Bianca), and with her help "The Sumerian child" is introduced to "The Autumnal sister", who agrees to take him to "The Truth" if he completes a particular task, which he does agree to. Now confronted with Verity will he return to his normal life, or will he discover that not all is what it seems to be? Find out in "welding the blade of dreams", a collection of short stories which includes: the curse brought by Twilight's river; rider of the mare; she whose name is the Truth; A warrior's end; beneath the white cloak; the lady with a mane made from constellations; This forgotten garden; the badge that I have given; deer amidst a pack of wolves; to weild the blade; days of celibration; and haunted by the ghost of August.
