Every morning, the ferry leaves North Point Island at 8:15. It carries commuters, tourists, deliveries... and, by the end of the summer, the futures of three best friends. On tiny North Point Island, where every goodbye begins at the ferry dock and everyone knows your name, Claire, Sadie, and Amira have spent their whole lives believing one promise would never break: graduate together, attend Columbia University, and share an apartment in New York City. But the summer after graduation has other plans. Claire is carrying a secret that could unravel the promise they've kept since they were eleven years old. Sadie is learning that first love isn't always forever. Amira is discovering that opening your heart can be just as frightening as leaving home. As the ferry carries them closer to adulthood with every crossing, lifelong friendships are tested, unexpected love finds its way in, and the island they've always called home begins to feel smaller than the dreams waiting across the water. Some summers change your plans. This one changes everything.

Short story Gray walks into her economics class expecting the usual notes, but today there's a budget project. Not just any budget project, a family project you have to have a group a four, and everyone must have a role. You can be roommates, a family, someone can even play a dog, but everyone needs a role. Gray would be okay with this, if she got to pick her own group. There's Gray, of course. She's the student council president and on course for Yale in the fall. Then there's Bierce. Quarterback on his way to a full scholarship at the local university of Alabama. Roll tide. Jack, the only person Gray is happy is in her group. His humor will keep her sane. Especially as her best friend and the one person following her to Yale (or any Ivy League) that is in no extracurricular activities at all. Finally there's Sarah, the quiet girl, who has a troubled past and cares about school maybe a little too much... (Once again this is just a short story but I might make these characters in more stories later.)
