Theodora Stourton was the daughter of a wealthy man in London. Her father raised her as best he could, alone. Having lost Theodora's mother to pneumonia just months after she was born. But recently the Count Stourton had passed and with no one else to leave the family's estate to, he willed it to his beloved and only child. With her first season approaching Theodora must play the part of a lady and take part in the mingling, but with little interest in marriage she hopes to stay away from any of those truly looking for a wife. Will Theodora make it through her first season unscathed and single? Or will the seasons unlikeliest of debutantes find a love match?

I pull the palm cards away from my face and shove them back in my front pocket. I take one more shaky breath and sigh. Then I begin, the speech about his life, about how he made me feel and how he made everyone feel. I leave out his terrible, horrible and tragic death. Besides, everyone would be happier that way, to remember the good things about him not the bad ones and to celebrate his amazing short life, not to grieve about why it was so dangerous and short. I still can't process the fact that he is gone. The fact that I will never get to feel his warm arms wrap around me again. Those arms, they made me feel safe, like I could tell him all of my fears and they would just wash away with a wave of his hand. I miss his smell. I miss his hands, his nose, his lips. I miss him. Since Kasey knows that, she becomes extra carful around him and tries not to fall for his little trap again. She thinks that she won't be one of his targets since she was his first girlfriend, but she thought wrong. So what happens when Jacob starts to cling onto her and says that he wants her back?
