"They called him dark his entire life. A joke. An insult. A boy nobody wanted beside them. Until one day, Aryan started believing it too. After surviving a painful school life filled with humiliation, loneliness, and silence, Aryan enters LCM College carrying nothing except insecurities and a diary full of broken thoughts. But somewhere between crowded corridors, late-night writings, misunderstandings, and unspoken feelings... he begins to wonder something impossible. Can a 'Dairy Milk' exist in real life? Can darkness and light ever become perfect together? Or are some people simply born to stay unloved?" A slow-burn college romance about colourism, self-worth, silent pain, and a love that sees beyond skin.

This 'book' will be used to bring awareness to colorism. It will be used to help those who have experienced colorism first-hand. It will be used to give others an opportunity to learn, and change some views on colorism. This is also a place where you can share your thoughts, experiences- if you have any, thoughts, and whatever else you would like. This is a place to be comfortable and learn, not judge, enjoy.

A best friend can be anyone. They could be the person to help you when you're down, the person who's there to pick you up when you need support. They could be the person who'd end up saving your life. Or taking it away. So then the question is, how far would you go to find them? Even if it means putting yourself, and everything you know in danger?

This poem is about colorism, which is discrimination against someone's skin color. Normally, I would have used the perspective of a woman, but I decided to use a man. It's important to acknowledge a man's perspective of colorism. Unfortunately, there are few too many who do not speak about the taunts they receive due to the fear of being labeled a "sissy" or "punk." Everyone has a story to tell and despite not being a man, I hope to shed light on this generational cycle of hatred. The images do not belong to me.

"Your black ain't beautiful", at least that's what her stepmother tells her. "If you're not a twig, you're not beautiful either", her stepsister Agatha would say. "Your parents didn't love you, if they did, they wouldn't have died and stuck us with you", Tabatha would add behind her twin. At some point, Casey just ignored them, realizing their words weren't true, but she still wondered... Did anyone really love her? Why would they? She's basically the black Cinderella. * * * * * * * * QUICK DISCLAIMER: Don't Be Stealing My Shit Don't Copy And Paste My Shit Don't Decide To Create A Oneshot Collection Of Whatever The Fuck Using My Shit Don't Reach Out To Me About Adding My Shit To Other Sites; The Answer Is No Or Any Of That Shit You Have Been Warned

Introverted Ilhaam is a hopeless romantic waiting for her own love story, but somehow has come to believe that no man will ever truly love her because of one feature that she is very insecure about - being BROWN-SKINNED. Will Ilhaam meet the man of her dreams? Will she overcome her unending insecurities? Above all, will she learn to love herself? ------- B.O.A.T is more than just a cliche romance. It is a story that revolves around a real social issue - COLORISM, which for years has tormented many people's lives, including mine. I've tried my best to portray the struggles of a brown-skinned girl as it is, which sometimes might look too exaggerated and negative for some readers. Of course, I could've written about a girl who finds comfort and loves her skin tone right from chapter one (because who doesn't like to read about a confident heroine, right?), but I didn't want to sugar-coat anything. This is a story about heartbreak, fighting through your insecurities, falling down, picking yourself up, and learning to love yourself without the need of validation from a man. Try reading it :) You'd love it ♥️ ----- WINNER - Sri Lankan Writers' Awards 2020 (15-09-2020)
