In introspect, Maya should have seen it coming, she spent every profound moment of her adolescence with Louis, talking about everything and nothing thus blooming the inevitable falling for your bestfriend saga. It's a narrative that seems written in the stars, almost unavoidable, ingrained. An age old theory that platonic friendships can not exist between two best friends of the opposite sex because one of them is bound to fall for the other.

Dinah Horton, a girl raised in Gilead. One of its most devoted believers. Of course she is. How could she not be? Her father is a High Commander, and her Grandfather is a Son of Jacob. To her, this is how life should be. During her unplanned break from Aunt Lydia's school, she finally gets what she wants: her period. It allows her to finally go back to school. To finally become a Green. In the world of Gilead, that makes all the difference. It means you're an adult now and that your life is about to change. Only it wasn't about to change the way she wanted. It forces her to take off her rose colored glasses for Gilead and look closely at the cracks in the fragile glass that start to show. From there, she realizes life might have more planned for her than she thought.

Unity in the black community is all that Senai Asheton knew. From Marietta, black love, black children and black crime were flooding the city, and her memories bittersweet moments. After her mother loses custody of her due to drug and child abuse, Senai moves to a predominantly Dominican, black and Puerto Rican neighborhood in Miami, Florida. Seeing a totally different lifestyle being practiced and done in this city questions everything Senai thought she knew. Colorism is heavily encouraged, which brings this teenager, who once loved her skin tone, down to insecurity and shame. With a help of her new neighborhood friend Dehran, she gets an understanding of how people in different cities treat her beloved people, and tries to keep her confidence high in the midst of it all. This book is heavily inspired by Moonlight and Selah and the Spades. Enjoy.

Gia knew Isaac as her adopted sister's boyfreind. A boy with a bad reputation and who liked to tease her for her place of birth and race (sort of). She didn't like him. She spent as little time with him as possible. But then she was kidnapped, and Isaac right along with her. Thrown into an, at first, unknown situation, she was forced to depend on someone she hadn't ever thought she would have to, even more so when the unknown situation became clearer. They were taken by a cruel couple, a cruel couple who couldn't adopt or have children of their own. An insane, wicked couple who decided instead of going the way of surrogacy or find willing participants, and instead force two unwilling people to conceive and birth their children for them.
