They won't stop talking to me.
I keep playing the same character and I can't level up: myself I'm 25, unemployed, broke, and one bad decision away from making rum and video games my entire personality.
Then, strangers start confessing things to me:
"Someone who looks exactly like me is ruining my life."
"I think my therapist is a vampire."
"There's something in the lake."
"I see ghosts all over campus. And they're angry."
I don't know why people keep supernatural trauma dumping on me. I didn't ask for the stories. But once people start telling them, I can't help but listen.
Then Alex appears - British, bossy, and annoyingly attractive - and he tells me that I'm a Listener. It sounds simple but Listening has side effects. Like energy drains, nightmares, and voices whispering to me in the darkness.
And some of the storytellers are dangerous.
So I decide to use my screwed up life to start a podcast. It's got my voice. And their monster stories.
It's supposed to be a record of what happened. A way to understand and prove that I'm not insane and show that I was here.
But stories have power.
Listener voices have more.
And I have no idea who - or what - my voice has awakened.
