Nalin is a young girl living with her father in Rayong, Thailand. She spends her days studying and learning under her father's guidance, to become strong and wise. All goes well until one fateful day when her father dies. While still mourning, her uncle comes to take her to Bangkok with him, where he beats and exploits her. A year later, the Japanese invade the capital and Nalin's life changes forever as she is taken to be a comfort woman. A story about female solidarity, strength, and union, set during the Second World War

But I was still forced into it." Vajen De Jong is only fourteen. She shouldn't be here, she shouldn't have been taken. She should be working at a factory, helping her little sister get dressed in the morning, falling in love. But she was taken, now all she can do is wait. This is a depiction of a TRUE HISTORICAL EVENT which happened from 1941-1945 in the Philippines when it was under the Japanese rule. It tells the sufferings and trials the comfort women (abducted Filipino sex slaves of the war) underwent during this time. This is a gripping tale that shows true love can blossom even in the most rotten places...and there will always be a contrast of fireflies and stars (blessings) brightening up the night (pain and tribulations)
