What is love? Is it defined by the actions we have done? Is love determined by the labels we put on ourselves? Or is it just a pure feeling we get? What exactly is it? This short story explores the concept of love in this modern world through the experience of a girl. She never understood the concept of love until she met someone in the most unexpected time of her life. Will she pursue this "love"?

Theresa is the girl no one ever notices. Her family is barely home and when they are the communication is non existent even if they are in the same room together. But just when she thinks her life will be like this until she graduates as a senior in two years she meets Cole and Liam who are running from their past mistakes with their younger sister, Ava and their mom, Sarah. They give her the excitement, family, love and danger her life is currently missing. Even though this is the best time of her life darkness lurks around every corner waiting to strike at Justina in the form of a boy named Ryan who is the boys' father's gang right hand man. But she doesn't stop there. She continues to join another gang, The Reds, to help Liam get the safety he needs. But will her naivety and obliviousness to the extent of danger she put herself in will lead to her ultimate demise? Will the boys be able to keep her safe or will her new life ruin her? Natasha was tired. Tired of a lot of things. Things were going to change. They had to. The determined set of her jaw confirmed it. She couldn't possibly have known there would be a whole new direction her life would go in. A direction that would leave her every day, well-worn path to "in the box thinking" unrecognizably out of sight. She took bereavement leave from B.F.D. Spending her days going to Earl Stroh's gun shop over on Archway Drive where she bought the Glock. Three, four times a week she made the ten minute, five mile subway ride. Fired off her anger and frustrations in the basement range under the store. Old plaid shirt, holey-kneed blue jeans and ratty sneakers. She'd run five or six ten round clips through the paper target fifteen yards away. She got better. She got good. Good enough after a few months to keep the pattern in a five inch circle center mass. It was her way of dealing with it. Getting out the frustration she felt inside at being cheated into living a life alone.
