Just some probably old-sounding, usually somewhat poetic(ish) musings that I *sometimes* write at 4am when I can't sleep. Updated regularly.

Annabelle tells the story of a Northerner named James who travels to Virginia and falls in love with the daughter of an affluent former slave owner: Annabelle. The two fall deeply in love, but their relationship is tainted by James' professed disdain for the society Annabelle was raised in. James views most of Southern society as ugly and beneath him, but he has a distinct hatred for Annabelle's father, who represents everything he feels is wrong with the South. When tensions between James and Annabelle's father reach a breaking point, James tries to make Annabelle see her father the way he does, but is heartbroken when she continues to support his deranged ideologies, forcing him to leave her. He is soon drawn back into the complicated situation when something bad happens to Annabelle. Around this time, he also comes into contact with another woman who seems to understand him and who sees the world in the same way he does. James finds himself in a situation where he must choose between Annabelle, who he deeply loves despite her many flaws, and the other woman, who sees the hazy Virginian countryside in the same way he does. Moreover, if James really can let himself love Annabelle as he wants to, how long can he go on living under the thumb of her father before his hatred boils over?

Chronic underachieving slacker Jimmy Slade has been in a perpetual holding pattern since graduating high school seven years prior. Jimmy wrecks his car while driving himself and his best friend Dominic Vega home from a party one stormy night. Dominic is forced to reveal his greatest secret to Jimmy leading them both to question each other about how they are wasting their lives and talents.

The day begins normally until Bill returns home from the mill and is greeted by Tommy in a panic. Their dog, Peppie, has returned from some unknown adventure dyed in bright patches of purple and orange, resembling a half-finished Halloween parade float. As the family investigates, the current contamination and its effects on both living and past, on the soul of individuals and their communities are revealed. The story closes on a note of muted reflection not only on a people whose environment has been contaminated, but on a people whose values are questioned.

They meaning your parents, teachers, friends, and etc. have told you from a young age to be yourself, but then say the contradicting statement of being part of the group. To what degree does someone change oneself to follow the norm? In Alarcon's sestina explore how society dictates and does not in ones life and if their is a healthy medium of remaining oneself and being part of a group.

~ Some days, no matter how I stop up my ears, I still hear the bell's knell... ~ This book of poetry explores and exposes my personal struggle, as I witness an entire society turn its back to avoid seeing how its behaviour impacts our fragile, beleaguered Earth. As unspeakably destructive consumerism lays waste to much of the planet's biosphere, humans are (ever so) slowly waking up to the harm and true cost of our way of life. We see yet refuse to see at the same time. We are loath to give up our creature comforts, our toe-hold in the climb for status, our relative sense of security, even though Life on the planet is threatened with irreversible harm, perhaps even annihilation. We've forgotten where we come from and no longer question the lie passed down to us from generation to generation. That we deserve to live like royalty at the expense of all other forms of life. That we are the ultimate Masters of the World. Holding on to this conviction, despite what we know in our hearts and minds, will soon send us spiralling into a chain reaction of disasters. As chaos overtakes our planet, we will rue the day we turned our backs and simply let it happen. What will we tell our children and grandchildren? Read at your own risk!!
