Speaking. A noun. It's the action of conveying information or expressing one's thoughts and feelings. It's also a right. The freedom of speech. Such an unfamiliar concept, for people under the age of eighteen. And whatever the government believes in, is what the public believes in. That is one of the many laws that the citizens of New Shanghai follow. The government says that civilians cannot speak until the age of eighteen. The government says that at the age of eighteen, people must take the Evaluation in order to be granted the right to speak. Those who fail the Evaluation, get sent to the Camp. The government says that if one speaks under the age of eighteen, they will be sent to the Camp. Disobey, rebel, or have any ill thoughts against the government, be prepared to face the consequences of going to the Camp. Going to the Camp means not returning. And even if they do return from the camp, those who do do not return as the people they once were. Frightened to the point where they can't speak, they spend the rest of their days in silence and fear. And be careful, they're always watching. Always.

'The dance of the Damned' was the first piece of poetry I ever wrote and this is a short collection of the first few poems I wrote which when i was writing them did not realise that they wer each an individual part of this longer set which are the first six in chronological order oddly enough. The war was coming. It was easy to see, no matter how much the government protested it's existence. Madeline was the daughter of a well known business owner, who had invented a very special type of medicine needed among almost half the population. Most would see her as the luckiest girl alive, to be born into riches and fame and beauty. Yet all she wanted was to run away. After joining the war effort, Madeline must face the difficult journey of leaving her home, and fighting against the only family she had ever known. As a symbol of the rebellion, her life had become nothing but chaos, and she must fight for herself and herself only to gain the one thing that she's dreamed of her entire life: freedom.

Gem Academy is a school where young White Magic Gems can learn and train. Though everything seems normal, it's not. The principal, Principal Stone, is more like a dictator than a principal and plans to use the students for his own evil purposes. But what happens when a small group of student form a rebellion, causing mayhem and mischief? Will they be able to overthrow Stones rule over the students?
