Trouble stirs throughout the Mycelium covered streets of Elliodel. The Emperor has ruled for centuries under his immortal grip, using a strange psychedelic substance to control the masses. Sky has lived in the city his entire life, watching his family and friends succumb to a life of addiction and control. He begins to assemble a small crew, sharing powers that were supposed to be a secret, only spoken of by the Emperor with a whisper. On the other side of the City a young noblewoman prepares for her arranged wedding. Io had never been able to make a single decision in her life, decisions were her fathers business. Meeting with her girlfriend Nathalia under the cover of night they imagine a life together, far away from Io's father.

The story takes place right after the events of "Words of Radiance" by the wonderful Brandon Sanderson. MASSIVE SPOILERS for the series! There are myths, legends, and stories of the "Collector of Oddities" across all of Roshar. People say he's like a guardian who gives money to those in need from a magical wagon that drives itself. These are all just stories, however, he's never actually been seen... Zez was just the scribe of a respected Stormwarden in Shulin, Alethkar, although the world is being shaken up by assassins, talk of the "Everstorm", and so much more chaos.
