Mr-Calma
This short story, "Stars Above," follows a narrator who, tormented by the mundane concerns of the world, seeks refuge in the shimmering tapestry of dreams. Within these visions, they glimpse a beauty they vainly sought in reality, wandering through celestial gardens and enchanted forests. Their dreams repeatedly lead them to a golden valley, shadowy groves, and a mighty wall pierced by a portal, sensing that beyond it lies a dream-country from which there would be no return. Longing to escape the dullness of the waking world, the narrator seeks a way to open the portal. They discover a yellowed papyrus filled with the wisdom of onirians, beings too wise to be born into the world, which speaks of the dream realm and the portal. Learning of a mage who can unlock the portal, the narrator visits a distant village and obtains a "diandos," a glowing red orb with magical capabilities. Consuming the diandos, the narrator floats into the golden valley and finds the portal ajar. As they pass through, propelled by the sorcery of the diandos, they realize that the new realm contains otherworldly lands, seas, and beings beyond comprehension. Soaring into this infinity, the narrator finds higher worlds that dwarf even universes, finally escaping the daemon Life and finding a happiness they had never dared to hope for.
